So I'm bringing the family from Grand Junction to St. George this coming weekend. Looks like we're going to camp at Zion?? My kids are excited about the Best Friends Animal Shelter, and I'm excited for the riding.

I'm looking for three good rides for while I am there. Two-ish hour rides, the closer to Zion the better. The more techy/ chunky... the better.

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Guacamole is fun, but short. I would head for Goose and maybe Little Creek. Jem-Goulds-Hurricane Rim is also a great ride, but I wouldn't rate it as chunky.
You can make it chunky, just hang a right while riding along the hurricane rim back to goulds. There is going to be a whole lot of chunky'ess going on trying to stay on the bike on the way down to the river.

COOL thanks for the info-looks like JEM/ Hurricane Rim one day, Gooseberry one day, and Little Creek or Grafton Mesa one day.

Now-since you've been so helpful--any suggestions for keeping the rest of the family busy while I'm on the bike? Would these trails also be fun to hike/ bike for a 6 and 8 year old? Any ice cream shops at the trailheads?:) Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

There is a small practice loop on gooseberry that kids would enjoy if they have bikes. Lots to do in zion national park and springdale as far as checking out the sites and yes there is icecream and food joints all along the main drag in springdale. If you take the drive to STG there are family fun centers(mini golf, go carts, ball pits, etc.), skate park, movies, etc.

If you are riding the loop I prefer doing the Rim first, then Goulds, then bombing downhill on JEM to the rig.

+1 on the practice loop at Goose for kids. My son still talks about the first trip.
