Explain yourself, Cloxxki

3124 Views 27 Replies 17 Participants Last post by  Cloxxki
Woke up this morning to my neighbor's excessively barking dog, which may explain why I'm a bit of a grump.

When I eventually got here (MTBR) I saw a post that had been edited (by Cloxx) and then closed. The post had listed some sort of a "trade wanted". Cloxxki's response:

>Trades also require classifieds ads, or this would be "Trade" forum

>[edit Cloxxki]

>Please get a $2 ad and trade away!

What chapped me about this is that for over two months Cloxxki himself has had a similar thread going. See it here: http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=131942

So WTF? It's okay for a moderator to use forum space without buying an ad?

Unless I'm missing a fundamental fact somewhere, this is baloney.

Cloxx? Your turn.

The difference I see is that he was:

1) not trying to sell anything to anyone on the board

2) not trying to buy anything from anyone on the board

3) not trying to TRADE anything with anyone on the board

Instead, was asking if anyone knew about the existance of a part he's looking for, so a typical response might be "my local shop has one" or "check supergo.com" etc. Another post of this kind might be something like: "Does anyone know if I can get aftermarket chainrings for my M960 cranks, I just don't want to spend the big bucks for shimano replacements. If they exist, can you direct me to a source for them?"

Versus a response to a sell/buy/trade (spam) post might be "you've got PM!" or "what's your email, i've got one."

Too fine a distinction?? I don't know what his response will be, but that's pretty clear to me...of course I don't know what the text of your deleted thread was.

The worst part about it is that he actually has a classified add. Two adds to be exact..

You make some good points. The distinction is fine between what Cloxx did and what Subluxation (author of the deleted post) did.

But if you read all the way down on Cloxx's thread, he DID in fact trade to solve his problem.

I've got no problem at all with that, in fact it's how I PREFER to get things done. Bartering is way more effective for all involved than spending money.

The problem I have is Cloxxki giving us the "Do as I say, not as I do" line.

And I'd like to hear his response.

Thanks,

MC

Wanted for trades
DT 240 Disc or similar rear hub
USE Cyclops clamps
110mm/5-arm 33, 42 or 44t rings
73x127 square taper BB, who can find one for me?

This was at the bottom of cloxxki's post 29inch, seems to me he wanted to trade to me. Seems that Cloxxki is over the line to me. Double standard anyone?
wanted to trade

TRADE!
I will trade my punctured tubes (2) for some new ones, preferable pre-filled with stans.
also for trade: stock 05 gary fisher headset... for your new headset that works. must be pink or rasta.

and you have to change the oil in my van, too. and put the snow tires on. gotta do that.

and you have to measure your headtube angle to the nearest milliradian.

when i was a kid one of my neighbors shot another neigbors dog in the butt. the dog barked a lot, bit my dad once and almost attacked a little kid. and this was in white bread suburbia, so it was a big deal.

so there you have it, a surefire way to avoid the morning grumpitude. Trade something with your neighbor for their dog (but not on MTBR unless you buy an ad), then let the dog loose in its home habitat for it to roam freely, barking and not bothering any sleeping internet cyclists.

Who watches the watchers

Several months ago, I posted a thread in the "Save Some Weight" forum paging one of the board's weight weenie gurus.

I was trying to get a hold of some lightweight parts that he may or may not sell.

It wasn't an ad - just a request for him to get back to me.

Cloxxki came down on me a little harder than warranted. And now I see him dancing in this gray area.

Cloxxki - you do alot of help for the 29er board. But you nor any other moderator should be exempt from the message board guidelines.

ahhhh, I remember when the classifieds were free
Your accusations, though pity,

are misguided.

From time to time, those who run the show need a reminder or two that they should be held to the same, if not higher, standards of conduct.

I recall purchasing a 1 1/4 King headset and a 31.6 (hard to find!) syncros seat post while living in berkeley... which had to have taken place in... 1996-1997!!! i think it was mtbr.com!
