Just picked this up yesterday, its a 98 18". My first downhill. I plan on doing lots of trail riding on this thing though. So far its awesome.I ended up paying 480 for it and it came with xt everything(literally), bomber forks, hydraulic disks, sun rims, azonic bars, and some kind of billet shorty neck. Lots of fun on my first ride yesterday.

as long as the drivetrain isn't totally blown out, it's not a bad price. it's so hard to say without actually seeing the bike.

I went through it and everything seems tight, even the linkages seem fine. Shifts good too. I put it through a slight beating yesterday with zero complaints.

I would say you got yourself a bargain there, outdated (yes), but a bargain none the less. It looks like it is going to BOMB down trails though. Don't get me wrong, I love old GTs (my current XC race rig is built off a 94 Zaskar).

Looks like a fun rig, especially for under 500 bux.......

Does your bike have the disc brake tabs on the rear swing arm or is there some sort of adapter there? Later model LTS models have the disc brake tabs, so you might have one of the more desired frames. On ebay, the last rear swingarm with disc brake tabs off of a 99 LTS sold for almost as much as what a used LTS (non-disc) mountain bike was going for! No kidding..I think it went for over $350....

Here's more LTS porn for you guys.

Wow, that's a lot of LTS's John. I may get a hand me down from a buddy of mine. he couldn't find bushings for it so it is just sitting there unused. One of these days I'll talk him into getting rid of it and giving it to me. LOL! What a scammer huh? Nice pics from Palo Duro too John. I'm from Okc, Ok. and one of these days I'm planning on going there.

Fortunately, they put me thru bike rehab and I've been clean for a couple of months now. :D

Its sad to her that your buddy has one lying around unused. Parts are getting scarce for them but not yet impossible to find. I probably need to start looking and restocking my parts bin this summer as well! I bet you could wrangle that LTS from him if you kept at it... Just convince him that nobody rides those bikes anymore. ;)

Not pictured are the two STS bikes that are lurking around the corner. That brings the total of GT LTS/STS bikes up to eight. But out of those, only three of those I would even consider to be currently "trail-worthy". One is still just a roller, and the rest of them have varying degrees of problems that need to be addressed. They range from missing springs, blown damping cartridges, worn out bushings, and missing components. I hope to get them all fixed one day but nevertheless the LTS (especially the 1997 models) holds a special place in my heart and I still enjoy them greatly. I still have old mountain bike magazine reviews of the LTS and STS that if I can dig them up, I'll scan them and post them as well.

Thanks for the compliments on the photos! Palo Duro Canyon is well worth the trip. I could spend all day there riding the trails. There's another state park at Quitique, TX called Caprock Canyons. It's just as beautiful, but the trails to me aren't quite as enjoyable as the ones at Palo Duro. If you do make a trip, I could arrange for you to have an LTS test ride if you would like one. (I think I have a extra LTS or two hanging around here... lol)

Hell I paid 300 for a brand new old stock 1996 frame. These are a piece of art nothing better looking than these frames all polished up. When I finish building mine it will be a head turner at the trail even more so than all the new bikes. Built by craftsmen not overseas

Gt Lts

Here is my 1998 GT LTS 4000.

One shot with some long travel Indy's as per specifications for the cross country version of that year.

An a second shot with some decent forks - Rockshox Psylo.

In storage at the present time.....

Yes it does have a bracket or "tab" as you call it. I can take a close up shot tonight if you like. The wife offered to polish this thing up with some billet polish and wow is it blingy!

8716valver: nice bike! It really makes a difference when you polish them up. One thing about a nice ball burnished gt is that it may get dull from oxidation over time, but they WILL polish back to a mirror shine.

I also found something interesting on youtube. It might come in handy for those who have yet experienced the joy of taking an LTS completely apart. At least now I know where those rubber o-rings were supposed to go... (and it isn't where they are now, either. )
