I read your blog post and am still not really certain what the hell I'm looking at, but I see zip ties, so I know it's a good kludge. Congrats on kludging your way out of being forced to drink beer all night.

It looks a bit clustered but what I did was use one tie band to hold the cracked cassette joint together, another hooked through the ear where the cable nut goes and the other end hooked through the outer cable stop to line up the 2 yellow lines like you would for properly setting up the Alfine in 4th gear. Once on the frame that tie band was trying to slip off so I used a small tie band to tie it together to the frame. Yeah, it was a bit complicated.

Why is your chain dropping into the cassette joint? I've been hammering Alfine/Nexus hubs for almost 2 years now with several kinds of dropouts, never dropped a chain yet. Maybe you need some of these:

Yes I suck. Cheap aluminum shark toothed chain ring + 1/8th chain. Yes, I know I should run a 3/32...it is on order...along with a cassette joint and a stainless chainring.

As far as a tensionser goes, won't matter in a few...my new frame will be here next week and it has paragon sliders.

very nice, I have the AL version. Slider will fix the issue nicely.
