I am think about buying an 08' Epic expert. After reading all the posts about how bad the AFR shock is, I am a little hesitant. Does anyone have any good experience with it or should I buy something else. I have several bike shops in town(cannondale, gaint, etc) but my local specialized dealer is who I want to do business with. Also, does anyone know the weight of a medium expert. Thanks for the help.

I have had zero problems with my AFR shock after around 600 or so miles. When I bought mine, the Large Expert weighed a little more than 26 lbs. I wouldn't know how much less a medium would be however.

I built up my medium '07 Expert wtih my components from an FSRxc, so not sure if this is helpful to you. Definitely not meant to be a light build but just durable for my tough trail rides. Components include:

Fox F100RL
Mavic Crossmax STs
Panaracer Fire XC Pro tubeless
Shimano XT drivetrain
Avid Speed Dial 7 SL levers
Avid BB7
Raceface Deus Low Riser
ODI Rogue lock-on grips

LBS weighed it at 27.60 lbs.
