I am trying to put together some sort of race calendar for myself for 2009. Aside from Boggs and Cool, what else is on your calendar? Looking for 6 to 8 hour races and 50 to 100 milers in Nor Cal. Thanks for any info!

Jen :)

PS - Of the races on your calendar, did you do them last year, thoughts, things you'd do different for that race, etc...

PPS - Roll call too. Who is doing what races?

Last/This year

Last Yea/Approx. Date/Lessons learned:

Feb. Stumpgrinder Dirt Club Winter XC Marathon @ 55 miles
April Boggs III [reliable support needed]
May 25 12Hrs of Weaverville [should have had a back-up bike]
June 14 12 Hrs. of Temecula [better strategy for heat/humidity]
June 29 Cascade Cream Puff [out-smarted myself @ equipment choice]
Aug. 16th[?] 12 Hrs of Humboldt [peanut allergy]
Oct 4 Whiskeytown 9 to 5 [peanut allergy again]

This Year:

Jan 24 12 Hrs of Temecula [maybe, it's a PITB getting there]
March Boggs IV
May Sonoma 100
May Twentywhatever 12 Hrs of Weaverville [ Bigfoot gig]
July 12 Cascade Cream Puff [Best Enduro on the west coast]
Aug 12 Hrs of Humboldt [Bigfoot does GREAT events!]
Sept Sierra 100
Oct Whiskeytown 9 to 5 [best endurance course in CA - IMO]

Thanks. I was/am looking for the answers for this thread also.

Considering SoNoMas and Whiskeytown in addition.

Did this in '07, and by 2:00, strategy changed to "wait in the shade until 5:00" Ouch that was hot.

Agreed on Boggs and Weaverville. Not sure about the Sonoma 100 miles of DOOM or whatever it's called. Would like to try Humboldt this year. Heard not-great things about the Coolest course from last year, but am very interested in the Coolest Boggs race, assuming it's similar riding to the Boggs 8-hour.

So No Mas sounds so painful.

I am really hoping I can get to the American Mountain Classic, but my wife has already told me no stage races for 2009. I had a lot of fun at TransRockies, I'd like to do it again.

I'm registered for Boggs 8hr solo, not really sure beyond that.

Right now I'm eager for cx season to wind down and jonesing for long, pointless mtn bike rides.

CCP in Oregon is great!

How about the Vision Quest down south if you can somehow get in: http://www.warriorssociety.org/Events_And_Results/vision_quest_general_info.html

I'm going to (again) try to get out to the Shenanoah Mountain 100 in Virginia.

If for just fun there is the Nevada City Endurance Ride: http://www.bigsofnc.org/Events.asp#BIKE
That Nevada City ride sounds good. Dave & Lynda did the Vision Quest and from reading their report, it sounds kind of poorly run. (http://2-epic.com)

I totally have the stage race bug. I wish there was one close by. The Breck Epic sounds good, but I don't think I can get 7 days away this year. The American Mountain Classic is only four days.

"is only four days."

What the heII is wrong with you? Do you really have that many demons to exercise?

As far as the original question; I only did the 8 hours of cool solo this year. I loved it and plan to do it again.
I did the CCP two years ago, that was by far my biggest ride ever at that point. It too was great, very well run and very long.

Yo Jen -- I'm trying to figure out my calender too. Here's kinda what I am thinking:

March:
-Boggs 8 - This will be a sufferfest for me as there's no way I can log long weekend training rides in the winter.

May:
-Coolest 8 - Mrs. Shoe and I did this last year and we had a lot of fun. Great to support the local stuff.

June:
-Coolest 8 & 24 at Boggs - tempting......

July:
-I have a buddy pestering me to sign up for Cascade Crempuff. I'm waffling on this though.

September:
-Tahoe-Sierra 100 - Had fun last year, but this year falls on same dates as Folsom Cyclebration, which I also had a blast at last year. This one will be hard decision.

October:
-Sly Park 100 - DEFINITELY doing this one. It's right up the road from us! There is also a 50 mile option/route.

lateOctober/early November:
-TBF is supposedly having a 50 mile race sometime around this time.

Would also consider the Whiskeytown 9 to 5. Mrs. Shoe and I did that last year and it's a SUPER fun course. Grassroots. low key fun.

With my wife due with the baby in March won't be able to do Boggs again in '09 :(

Signed up for Coolest 8hr solo in May, but that's all I have planned for thus far...

Probably do 2-3 others next year. Would like to do more but will be tough with the new addition to the family. Most likely will do...
Sierra/Tahoe 100
Whiskeytown 9to5...had a blast at this one this year even in the cold, wet, and rain!
24 Hrs in the Sage in Gunnison, CO (since I missed it this year)

Jimmyboy! Of course I will be back to drink beers! Might even do a 100 or two solo this year. Very excited about Sly Park since it is right up the road. Just trying to figure out what races I can do and spread them out so I don't crack early in the season. :) Cool is on my wish list, that's pracically down the street. I could be a real masochist and ride there to warm up. :)

Whiskey Town 9 to 5 is another I would like to try to do this year. Did that a couple of years ago as a 2 person team and loved it. So many choices!!

My Calendar looks something like this & yes I need my head examined & yes, recovery between events will be an issue:

February-March: TBF series and Cool Mtn Bike Race
March: Boggs 8hr.
April-June: Prairie City Series
May: Coolest 24 solo
June: Coolest 24 Boggs solo
July: Cycle Washington: week long road tour + Downieville Classic
August: Leadville 100 (if I get in) Howell Mtn if I don't.
September: Tahoe Sierra 100: fun last year but hard
September: Prairie City Fall Series
October: Sly Park 100
November: "Beer Me"

What I've learned from the past.....I'm already training like mad for the upcoming season...a good base goes a long way....

Congrats!

When mine were that new I never wanted to leave them. Didn't do much away from home the first year.

Give yourself some leeway this year. You're gonna fall in love all over again.

I'm doing Boggs 4, Solo,(SS or CX)
Coolest 24, Solo (SS)
SoNoMas 100 (three person team (SS)
Tahoe Sierra 100
Sly Park 100
Whiskeytown 9-5

Last year I did Weaverville too, but with o many of these races falling early in the season, I have to skip that one. I will be at Jimmy's Boggs 24 as a pit crew if anyone wants to drink beer with a boy and his pitbull.
