I recently purchased my first Rocky Mountain bike and Element 30. Overall I have to say that it was a good purchase. The one issue I am having is ghost shifting and not shifting correctly. I have had to take the bike back to the local shop just about everytime I ride to get it adjusted because it will not shift correctly. I have given up on the shop where I purchased the bike due to their inability to fix the issue. The other local shop that I use has gone over everything and can not find anything wrong with the bike but again it will not shift correctly. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

My ETSX had ghost shifting issues as well when I first got it. Tuning didn't solve the problem but when I put the XTR rear derailleur and XTR shift cables on to replace the stock parts, the ghost shifting mysteriously stopped. The cables that came on the bike were probaly crap.

Before you do anything serious like change derailleurs I would go with changing the cables as suggested. I was not liking the Low-Normal Dual Control stuff on my Element 70 very much until I did that. With new cables the thing shifted so much better.

I just upgraded it completely to 2007 XTR on the Element after my wife and kids upgraded my Slayer to 2007 XTR stuff for Christmas. After two rides on that XTR group I was sold. But try the cables first, I think that will fix your problem for sure.

Rocky makes great bikes, I love my Element 70 but every Element around here, doesn't matter if a 10 or a 70 suffers from RM low quality derailleur hanger. It has the durability of an exotic cheese. Mine perpetually needed tweaking or replacment to keep good shifting. It not just me, many RMs around here have the issue. :madman:

Best investment I made was this derailleur protector that slides onto the rear skewer between the skewer nut and the frame drop-out. It has saved me from much adjust. Others around here have tried it as well and in every case it has solved the RM "rear derailleur out of adjustment" syndrome.

You can't order it direct so call your RM dealer have them order you one.:D
