I'm considering putting the SC32 on my El Cap for more of a race bike configuration. Currently I run the DUC and like it alot for a all day trail bike.

If you've had experience with this setup, I'd like to have your reviews and input...

good question....

do not have an El Cap but do have an SC-32 and it is excellent in my opinion. Though for a race bike it depends......while the SC-32 is definitely more plush than my Rebas and handles technical stuff WAY better, the Poploc on the Reba is very, very nice for sprinting situations. Also, the White Brothers Magic IMV stuff sounds ideal for a race bike setup. I guess it depends on how much you plan on standing where the Reba and/or WB might be my choice for racing....short course stuff anyway. For endurance racing, I will take the maverick and plan to do so with mine.

my 2 cents

cheers

Good comparo to the Reba, the Mav is 10x more plush. I don't think I'll be doing any sprints to the line on the El Cap anyway!

For me, I've always liked the travel limiter on the Mav and it makes that fork a good climbing fork for that reason....
sorry...forgot to mention that part; you are indeed right. another advantage of the SC-32 is the travel adjust whereas on the Reba, while you can lock it out, you cant redcue the travel. I love the SC-32 for long climbs because of it since adjusting the travel makes the head angle nicer for climbs. only time Poploc is a major advantage is when you have to make a VERY quick change to lock it out otherwise, the travel adjust on the SC-32 has a very similar net effect on riding in terms of stiffening up the fork (in addition to lower travel).

In my limited Mav experience, me thinks you'll be losing a significant amount of torsional stiffness going from DUC to SC or even a standard fork to the SC. The Mav dampers are luscious, but the SC seems a bit flaccid to me.

If you're light it is less of an issue. I'm morbidly obese.

i am a girlish 175 lbs (butt naked with my back hair removed) so IF there is any difference in flex "on the trail", I aint seeing it.

Man I must borrow/beg/steal a Mav to test on my Salt.

I say this because the REBA I got on there now is by far the best fork I've ever put on the front end of my bike.

It's as plush as I want it or as stiff as I want it to be. And the lack of brake dive is a beautiful, beautiful thing. Are the 29'er Reba's damped different?

I'd agree on the Reba. Just received another one from Chad for the singlespeed project and I had forgotten how good they are. Well, just about anything will feel better than a Zoke EXR with high pressure, but I don't have to worry about that now!

I should have the Salty and SS in pretty much final shape and in maintenance mode after this weekend. My wife is happy about that.

Yeah, but it's the '70s porn bush on your taint that is saving your lower back.

If you got a Brazilian you couldn't ride more than 5 miles without stopping and applying ice to your undercarriage.

I haven't weighed 175# since I was 14yo.

They do flex Fo Sho (puts on flame suit and flicks everyone off).

no worries....no fork is perfect for everybody for every riding style in every terrain.

I had now my second issue with a Reba this morning; perhaps my luck with RockShox is like my recent luck with tires.

When "locked" down on this mornings ride it now does almost nothing to maintain the locked position....just a tad better than not engaging the Poploc. My first Reba 29er leaked oil like a mofo. In either case, good fork, but I am done with Rebas for sure...but could just be back luck as well.

How do you store the bike? If you store it hanging on the wall or worse upsidedown, it takes a few minutes or like 25 cycles of the fork to get the oil into the bottom of the damper shaft and the lock out works much better.

Also, did you move the setting on the Flood Gate? That sets the lockout threshold.

Also make sure the cable on the Pop Loc hasn't slipped. If it has that could mean you are not actually locking out the fork, just heavily damping it. (You won't move the damper far enough to lock out)

There's a few option's for ya.

I never store bikes hanging and/or upside down.

Floodgate is set appropriately to the max setting, as always (first thing I checked this morning)

Cable has not slipped.

In addition to flat out not working as it did 2 rides ago (my 30 mile ride Tuesday morning I wore headphones so i would not have noticed change in sound), there is a new distinct sound. However, only when locked out....when unlocked, seems to work fine.

will have my dawg at the local shop check it out.

cheers

I store all my bikes upside down, and never have issues.

Two Rebas, two ignitors, zero problems. I'm blown away that the SC32 can be plusher than the Reba because I find it to be very plush.

What is the A-C of the 29er SC32?

How much travel does the 29er version get?

SC-32 on a salt

I love the sc-32 on my salty.
Plush and the travel has save my ass a more than a few times.
And at 3.7 pounds it is so smooth. I often don't lock it out on climbs the fork works so well.
I also have not noticed any flexing on any thing I ride, rocks, drops, fast or slow.
I recomend it.

Bummer to hear the sounds/poor performance is still there.
My next guess would be too low of oil level in the Motion Control Chamber your LBS should be able to sort that out fairly easy for you.

Like Loney said, my two Reba's have been great so far, so hears to hoping yours are just bad luck! :)

axle to crown is 494 mm

travel ~90mm
Both too short, so scratch that.

On another note: I just found the motion control "lock out" has quit on one of my Rebas. Worked fine one day, now it doesn't This fork does not have the poplock on it. Luckily it is on the FS bike which I rarely if ever lock out anyway.

Post up what the problem is with the Reba when you find out.

Sorry to hear about the other problems. Financial or mechanical?

bummer....how much AC is your bike designed for? I tell you what....the 90mm travel anyway feels way better than the 100mm I had on the Reba.

bummer also about the lockout.....that makes 2 of us in one week in one thread with the same problem.....RockSucks rears its ugly head once again :( the stigma of old RockShox is still there for me

thanks for asking...problems are financial.....but hey, I have my health...it aint cancer, and I am still better off than the VAST majority of people in the world. bottom line problem is that the cost of living in southern california, having 4 kids, having one income, and not willing to sell my soul to my company to get ahead is catching up with me in a big way.....

You should try the DUC... a-c is close to the 100 mm Reba (~515mm if I am remembering correctly) and you get about 4.5" of travel. Seems like a much better fit for an El Cap than the SC32.

The new Hope Pro II hubs have an interchangable axel so you can even build a wheel that is reusable with other axels if you don't like the Mav forks.
