Same problem here, I'm just going to get the new SS version soon. That will fix the problem
Will rebuild them once I get some new pedals.

Hey! As a follow up on the eggbeater pedals. I filed the spindles down to remove the play and you asked if that was I sign that they needed rebuilding? I am convinced they didn't. I think the spindles were machined to the wrong length from the factory. If you look closely at the disassembled pedals it is hard to imagine they could wear out(other than bearing/bushing whatever is in the outboard end). It is heavy metal riding on heavy metal. Soon as I filed spindle down, the pedals seated firmly with no wobble. They spin smoothly after I regreased them. I read somewhere that people were rebuiding them and still had wobble. My guess is they had spindles with wrong length. I have an early set and maybe things were cleared up later. At this rate they should last for many years.

So wat part did you file down?! Any pics???

interesting. i just got done with a 4500mi ride, in which one of the rider's Eggs blew up. the bearing basically exploded. we both run the 1st gen Eggs, and earlier in the ride, i noticed his pedal had a significant amount of play (around mine 700, i think). about 1000mi later is when the bearing gave. i had a rebuild kit with me, 'cause mine are in need, but gave it to him. after we rebuilt it, there was no more play. and i was able to pick up another rebuild kit at Whistler for $10CAN....which is like $.50USD. yea.

As mentioned I have early eggs also. I wonder how long they have been wobbly until I noticed them? You couldn't feel it riding. When you rebuilt that pedal wobble went away. I am not sure that would have cured mine. We might have had a different problem or I have just applied a bandaid and mine will go anytime. Right now they feel great and spin smoothly. Did your friend maintain his pedals? Since they are easy to do I did it about every month.
