Edge 500 straight line from home to T/H

Love my Edge. How do I not get a straight line from my house to the trail head. It doesn't track the time or mileage from home to trail but there is a straight line.

I knew the answer last season but I am doing something wrong this year after being off the bike during the winter.

I see that when I START the unit and then STOP, leave it powered on, and then START it again. It wants to connect the two parts as a single ride.

I'm a little confused by your short description as to what you actually do and don't do with the GPS at home and the trail head. Are you riding or driving? When do you turn it on? When do you press start? Are you resetting the data between rides? If you do a ride, turn the unit off, then turn it back on and press start, it keeps recording like it is a single ride. You need to press and hold the Lap (Reset) button and let it do the 3-2-1 countdown to record separate rides.
I remember the Lap/Reset part. I think what I am doing wrong is I start the timer at the trailhead them immediately turn it (the timer) off then do the reset. I think I need to reset without turning on the timer first.
My routine is to stop the timer, press and hold reset, turn the device off. Then on the next ride it is power up, start and ride.

Mine (with a 305) is to power on at the trailhead. Reset if needed (auto resets when I download the data). "Start", ride, "stop" at end of ride. Power off.

If I hit "start" again before resetting it can do the straight line between the "stop" and "start" locations.

Lumber, it sounds like you may have hit "start" and "stop" at home.

Do not turn it on at home and do not hit start, stop at home. It thinks you're still on the same ride when hit start at the trailhead.

And I never hit the reset button. It seems to know that it's a new day and it's a different ride.
