I got a new crank that uses the sram eagle XX1 direct mounting pattern and have an new eagle xx1 12 speed chainring that I have as a spare for my geared bike. On the bike currently, the chainring is a raceface NW chainring and sram 9 speed chain.

Sram always states that a 12 speed chain must be used for their eagle ring but if I am using a 9 speed chain for a single speed application. it should be fine to use, right?

Anyone have experience using this ring and a 9 speed chain?

Thanks

I would use the Race Face Narrow wide. I am not sure if the eagle chainring has a odd pattern to go with 12 speed chain. Even if it works do you want to wear down the eagle chain ring on as single speed? Price out a new eagle chainring vs new raceface and see.

I've been using an eagle ring for about 6 months with 8 and 9 speed chains, it works fine but I think the eagle tooth shape might lend itself to the occasional pop and ping from the drivetrain.

I just converted from GX eagle to SS. I have a sram 34T crank and shortened the Eagle chain to use since it is pretty new. Everyone I spoke said to the Sram 10 speed chain for price and durability, but it is my understanding you can use the 9 speed chain too. I am using the problem solver zinger on the rear and it was super easy.
