chain rubs on e13 bash

I have an afterburner bash on the XT cranks, and when the chain is on the largest chainring (32T) and the smallest or 2nd to smallest cog.. the chain gently rubs on part of the bashguard.. looks like maybe if I put a washer between the bash and chainring, I could allow for some more spacing.. did anyone have this problem? specifically, it rubs at the top of the bashguard right before the chain contacts the first tooth on the rings because the chain enters as an every so slight angle.
