Haha nice.

It would be slightly better if they at least played something decent, but 99% of the time that's not the case.

No, unfortunately those with the least courtesy have the worst taste.

There isn't a trail along the Front Range that these jackasses aren't on. I don't wanna hear your Skrillex maaaaannnnn. Or your Neil Diamond. FFS, you are outside, enjoy it. If ya just gotta have tunes go to soul cycle or get a peloton.

I thought this thread was going to be about Maxwell.

What it's actually about isn't much better. Both make me sad.

I never ran into anyone doing this, but if I did I would be very annoyed. How obnoxious.

I encounter it on the regular. Obviously Bobo's obviously being a bit over the top about it. He lives in my area, too, so if I've encountered it, I know he has, too. But that's how folks riding with speakers come across.

I raced the Iceman a number of years ago, and kept going back and forth with some tool who had a speaker during the race. ~30 miles of it. I was about to reach over, grab his speaker, and toss it into the woods. It took a great deal of restraint to avoid doing that. Race rules explicitly prohibited headphones at the time, but did not address bluetooth speakers. I dunno if they updated the rules since.
I've only ever experienced it in areas that are already a **** show like Moab. In that context I didn't exactly mind it, just thought it was kind of a funny novelty. Now guys that blast their shiit music in the parking lot that's pretty fukking irritating. Ear buds are still the d-bag king though.

Two notable instances I experienced:

1) Rode past some guy stopped along the trail one Sunday morning and from what I heard, not sure if he was listening to black metal or some doomsday preacher. I laughed (and kept riding, glad he was stopped).

2) Usually it is really crappy music but one guy came rolling by when I was stopped with Bob Marley, which really didn't bother me.

EDIT: rode, not road!
I had a guy hike past me deep in Canyonlands with two speakers mounted on his backpack, blaring away. It was totally quiet back there 'till he walked by.

I would much rather use that space for a water bottle than a bluetooth "speaker" emitting highly compressed low-quality sound, even if the original source music was something acceptable (which, as noted, it never is).

Unless you are riding your early 1980s Italian bike with Il barbiere di Siviglia as background music, you are an ignominious poltroon.

Whatever happened to listening to the birds?

The best line in the video was something about never wanting to be alone with your thoughts (which for me, and probably most non-sociopaths, is as important as any physical fitness benefit of riding).

I don't get it....what the problem.
Maybe because I watched about 50% of it due it being a crappy edit.

Let the person ride with music, so what. Pass them or hold up a second. Do people really pull up to you playing music while you are hanging with friends?

I sometimes put my phone in my pack and let it play if I know I'll be mostly along -but also I will either catch and pass a person or they will catch and pass me. How long were they in agony listening to my music if either of us were faster.

There is a definitely a correlation between how badly someone wants to blast their music into the ether and how bad their taste is
