I'm installing a Dub GX crankset in my 73mm BB shell, which calls for the 4.5mm spacer outside the BB (everything done per the SRAM dub youtube installation vid). However as I tighten the cranks, I start to get binding on their rotation well before I get to the 54Nm torque spec. Note I have the preload adjuster on the non-drive side completely backed out.

It seems to be tied to the 4.5mm spacer, as if I take that off, I can tighten the cranks easily to torque spec and there's no binding; but of course there's too much play without the spacer. Any ideas? It sure seems like the classic "too much load on the bearings" feel but I'm stumped on what to do (as I can't under tighten the cranks).

Do you have the spacer on the right way (flat side towards crankarm)?

Your bb shell could be slightly wide and need faced. Otherwise I'm not sure, I have had to go against the sram docs a time or 2. Maybe you could try the 2mm spacer with another 2mm flat spacer above it.
