Hello all.

I have a 350 fatbike hub with a standard shimano HG driver. I need to convert to XD, so I see plenty of places to grab the XD driver for a 350 hub. The question is whether I need a new endcap piece too? Some come with one, some don't, and I have no idea.

The rear is 177 fatbike, but that shouldn't matter I don't think?

Anyone know more? I've never swapped a freehub body on anything, so I'm not sure what to buy.

Thank!

thank you. On amazon, most don't show any end caps at all, some do, but they are clearly not the right ones. That's why I wasn't quite sure.

I'll keep digging to make sure I get the right one.

Oh, interesting. I was assuming length of end cap is what changed, not diameter. In that case, the end cap should come with any XD driver, that would make sense to me.

The overall width should be the same. But the piloting diameters are completely different. Which makes sense, since the NDS is the same endcap.

Looks like shimano/sram located the bearings in the same position.

I was just about to post the same basic thing. Worldwide cyclery has one, with the cap just like that, but it too mentions 12 x 142mm. I would think the width comes from the hub, not the end cap, right? All end caps would be the same?

Maybe not, that would be way too logical for the bike industry.

12x142 is most likely a remnant of when hubs supported 142mm TA and 135mm QR simultaneously, while only changing the end caps (both sides).

That's kind of what I was thinking. I found another site that mentioned 142/148/157, so while I have 177, it clearly is not the end cap that changes. I hit up ol' Mikesee the wheelbuilder master and he's going to hook me up. He built the wheelset, so I figured he'd know for sure.

At least it appears, I won't need to buy more tools for this one!

I guess someone could want the driver and not need an end cap, a replacement for a broken one or something, but for the sake of less confusion and part numbers, throw the stupid end cap in with each and be done with it. If they are always the same. They aren't exactly giving the drivers away. I just paid almost $90 for one.

I also need DT 350 hyperglide end caps for my 197 x 12mm fatbike. Are all the 12mm end caps the same? meaning, can I get the 142/148/157 endcaps? Or is there a special DT 350 endcap for a 197 x 12mm fatbike? Im not seeing any such endcap set.

Thanks, All.

In case anyone wonders in the future, DT Swiss confirmed that "142/148/157/197 spaced hubs all use the exact same end caps, the difference in spacing is all down to the hub shell rather than loner or shorter end caps. Here is the part number you need for a thru axle HG end cap set up. HWGXXX0002193C."

Yep. Also add 177 to that list.
