DSD Runt tuning?

3654 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  keen
I have a 2017 Fox Rhythm 34 120mm. I weigh 205lb. and ran 95psi & max tokens. Installed Runt and set pressures @ the recommended 2-1 ratio : High 190, low 95. The fork felt really firm, no sag. I have dropped the pressures H/L pressures by 10 psi and could probably go slightly lower. Anyone deviate much from recommended pressures? Thanks.

I put something like 125psi in the high to start with, then adjusted low (main) until I had good sag. I then went back and played with the high to tune mid stroke/bottom feel. I did not end up at 2-1 for sure.

The high pressure will not effect the sag much, if at all. But it is weird that you old pressure with max tokens was so much softer.
It should feel pretty similar right at the top of the stroke, you definitely inflated the valves the right way around?

Yes just like DSD states :
Setup:
  • First, pump up the HIGH chamber of your RUNT to 2x your preferred pressure.
  • Next, pump the LOW chamber of your RUNT to your preferred pressure.
I was running 72psi and 2 tokens in my 2019 Fox36 pre-RUNT. Grip1 damper
165# ride-weight

According to the notepad on my phone, current settings from last check about 2 weeks ago are:
High: 104 psi
Low: 58 psi
for 20% sag
I generally only use 85-90% of the travel. I can bottom the fork, but it takes a chest-high huck to do that.

ninja-edit: I swear I recall reading somewhere (or hearing on a video from DSD) that you take the old PSI and SUBTRACT 10, and that's the start of your low pressure setup

Here it is, sorta... I half remembered it:

Installation:
  1. First check how much air pressure you are currently running in your fork. WRITE IT DOWN! This is your preferred starting pressure.
    • If you are using a minimal or stock amount of tokens in you fork currently (0 - 2 or 3), start with 5-10psi less than your current pressure as your preferred starting pressure in your RUNT.
You started with max tokens, so it doesn't apply directly, but I'd definitely be dropping the low pressure chamber a good bit.

Ok all good, sorry for stating the obvious but to me if you have inflated it all correctly then there is some kind of issue with your fork or the runt.

You still equalised the neg chamber by cycling the fork, and have you ridden it on a trail yet?
I also went less than 2x in the high chamber than what I had in the low.

140lbs naked. 60psi/115psi. It's a 120mm Rhythm that I just recently converted to 130mm.

Definitely feels firmer in the mid stroke, and slightly more supple as I'm running 5 psi less than when I had spacers. I did add the narrow Diaz shims to my damper and removed the two additional shims that Fox has on the forks that are 120mm and shorter. At my weight the amount of spacers Fox had in there was too many, rebound was too slow and I was running rebound all the way open.

It feels like I have way more travel with the Runt, it's almost impossible to bottom the fork out now but it doesn't feel harsh.

So based on my experience and what others have said here and other reviews:
-Install 10% less psi in the low pressure chamber
-Go closer to 1.9x that amount in the high pressure chamber. But obviously do that first.

So I weigh the same as you and have a runt 34 factory. I’m running 70/140 and have been for a while. I’ve gone higher but to me this is the right setting. With only 130 mm I want to use all my travel regularly and at this setting i do although I never feel it bottom.
As of late I have had pretty good luck w/ manufactures baseline settings. Based on responses lower pressures are more common. I generally set my suspension for the best ride characteristics so I will see where my pressures end up.
