Thought a drum brake bike might be of interest.

Excuse the rust - this is my bog bike and gets used on salted roads in winter.

Do those drum brakes have enough stopping power?

Here in the netherlands you almost stumble over those brakes but the power always disappoints me.

Notice the big old XT canti brake levers - they seem to give more leverage than modern cable levers.

I wonder, are they set up to use road pull brakes? If so, newer linear pull brakes wouldn't work very well on them, and you'd definitely get better performance out of old levers that were set up for use with cantis.

that definetly true. Good cables and levers are a big help. Dutch city bikes usually lag behind in that department....

The question about stopping power is a good one.

I have read a lot of reviews about brakes, but it is all subjective information. I have never seen results of a measured test in all the time I have been cycling. I suspect the colour of the anodising and the weight of the calliper has more to do with getting a good review so long as the performance is adequate.

Has anyone seen figures - eg 15 feet from 20mph with 12 stone rider?
