What are two major components that I can upgrade and reduce a good amount of weight. trying to start saving to make my bike better as well as get it lighter. I couldn't afford to buy an already light bike, but over the next year or so I will be able to upgrade components here and there. Whats the best place to start? I have a 2010 Gary Fisher mamba. 31 ish pounds....

wheels then fork
for all the other parts, just replace them with lighter stuff as they break. with wheels and fork, you will get the most weight loss for the money.

Roughly in order of $$$:

Tubes
Tires
Saddle
Seat post
Bars
Stem
Fork
Wheels

Roughly in order of felt gain:

Wheels (by far the biggest and best gain short of a new frame!)
Tires
Tubes
Fork
Stem
Bars
Saddle
Seatpost

YMMV

Wheels for sure and when you get new wheels consider a new cassette. The cassette on there could weigh a ton. I would save up and get light wheels and tires(going tubeless) and a cassette. That will make it feel like a new bike. If you watch for deals you can also get bars, stem, saddle and seatpost that will drop a considerable amount of weight without breaking the bank
