Riders gearing up for next year's Downieville Classic will have to wait. The Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship has announced that the 2022 Downieville Classic, scheduled to run from August 4-7, 2022, has been postponed until 2023. When the race returns in 2023 it will be the 25th Anniversary of its running.

Despite the postponement, the Downieville Classic will be back and better than ever for its 25th Anniversary. “We’re disappointed to have to postpone the Downieville Classic, although it was a necessary decision. We’ve got big plans in the works for making the 25th Anniversary event in 2023 the best one yet! Says SBTS Executive Director Greg Williams.

Not true. While while some locals dislike the mountain bikers, most are okay with them. And some of the reasons we have problems is a lack of respect from what is about 5 to 10 percent of the mountain bikers who come though our town. I'm talking about the people peeing in my yard, breaking my 100 year old peach tree to get the peaches out of it and the people breaking the speed limit and running the stop signs through town. Classic weekend things get even worse, you all come to town and act likes it's spring break. I mountain bike and built some of the sections of trail you ride on, so no I don't want to see mountain biking to go away. Just some respect would be nice.
As for the money brought in by the Classic, very little makes it into to the community. The dozen businesses everyone uses aren't made or broken because of The Classic. Mining and logging have been dead for years and nobody here expects then to ever come back. Downieville for the last 50 years has relied on tourism to keep the town afloat. So we're more than happy to have you. Just treat it the way you'd want me to treat your home.
