None of the LBS in my area stock DOT 5.1 NON silicon fluid for Avid Elixirs and several automotive stores didn't have it either. I need to bleed my brakes and I'm almost out of the little bottle that came with my Avid bleed kit, where do you buy this and/or what are you using?

yep DOT 3, 4, 5.1 are all glycol based so they will mix fine.. they actually make a synthetic DOT 4 now that will mix with 3,4,5.1 fine.. (in my motorcycle now) and unless youre doing downhill and heating the brakes up you wont know the difference in stopping power (unless ya dont bleed all the air out)

Dang motorcycle store didn't have it either. Just got back from errands and finally found 5.1 at one LBS. Finish Line brand...pricey...$17.99. Dot 4 is lower boiling point. But does it also absorb moisture more slowly?

glycol based brake fluids are pretty much the same other than boiling point ..... and as i said unless youre doing downhill i doubt you will ever notice the lower boiling point...
