A buddy of mine is looking at a budget F/S bike, and has found 2 that he wants to buy. He asked me for my opinion, but I'm into the FR/DH scene and don't know all that much about these 2:

KHS XC-304

GT I-Drive 2.0

Which would you recommend to him?

but he should try them out himself. I hear that particular KHS bike is kind of a pig.

If he's looking for a good FS XC bike, he should also check out the Jamis Dakar or Dakar Sport. The Dakar Sport is well designed and comes with Disc Brakes for $800. Also, check out the Ironhorse Hollowpoint. IIRC, there is one that is not too much more than these other bikes.

Your buddy might also look at a used Specialized FSR. They are in the 700-900 range on ebay. I been beating on mine for almost two years and have just had to replace the chain, tubes and tires. (considering I'm about 185-190 lbs and not exactly a "finess" rider they are pretty durable for the money)
