Don't buy at RS Cycle - and don't fall for Iron Horse

Fair warning: Don't buy any close out deals at RSCycle - definitely stay away from Iron Horse bikes.

Issue: RSCycle promises they could get you spare parts. In reality they cannot. They only cover warranty. But if you lose or break something - you are on your own. The advice I received was to go to a hardware store for a lost counter sunk bolt that is part of the shock mount.

Very disappointing. :madman:

Klaus, you have an Iron Horse? I didn't know that.
That's too bad. I had a great experience with their CS when I bought my wife's MKIII a while back. I've had good enough luck with the three IH I've owned that I wouldn't let that stop me if I found a good deal on one. I usually don't count much on warranty, anyway.

That's who you're dealing with in that company. Throughout, he showed who he really was in that thread, so we quoted him along the way because he started editing the posts. He and his dad are in another thread as well right now.
Reading all of the background on the IH deal has been an eye opener. From the laymans point of view, it seems that the 3 main owners were all corrupt and are now pointing the finger at each other. Post bankruptcy now, the owner and son have started a new company and are offering to buy IH out of bankruptcy for pennies on the dollar. Yikes.

Check here for more info:

I thought there was no money in the bike industry. The numbers mentioned in the Bicycle Retailer articles don't sound like pennies to me.
I'm confused. You bought an out-of-production bike from a bankrupt manufacturer, and you did it online. Did you not get exactly what you paid for?
Crooks are everywhere, it seems. Money corrupts the weak of character and ya don't know about yourself till you can steal a ton of it. :)
A little birdie suggest to me that mojo might have a supply of IH parts. Should maybe give them a call.

lot of money but not a lot of profits :) All that money IH is talking about, though, it's all negative money.
Let me see if I understand Klaus post correctly:

You buy a bike from an e'tailer, on close-out, from a manufacturer who is Bankrupt and no longer manufacturing, covered ad nauseum on the DH forum and Iron Horse forum and complain that there will be no parts available.

I think I might go out and buy a DeLorean and post on the car sites that I can't get parts for it anymore:mad:

Caveat emptor

I bought from a retailer that advertised that he would stock IH bike parts for years to come. I bought the bike in the concept store in Boulder and not online - based on the same promise. Now the retailer tells me they'd only support warranty issues and don't have the spare part I need.

I am trying to make sure this doesn't happen to you.

And no: You didn't understand the post correctly. Switch off selective reading and try again.

SCORE! Now I will go out and buy the one I was looking at, but only if I can get Doc Brown to work on it.

Klaus-

My point is you bought a bike from a defunct manufacturer, on close-out based on a promise that they would take care of you with parts. Sometimes a little research goes a long way. 15 seconds to be exact.

Caveat emptor = Buyer Beware

I think you're missing the point. He's simply calling out the party's claim/promise to maintain spare parts and their apparent failure to live up to that claim/promise.
Well that sucks. I thought about buying a IH from them earlier this year. Glad I didn't.

Hope you find the part you need.

Thanks. Somebody in the world understands me! :)

Don't worry Klaus. Some of us understand you are complaining about unfulfilled promises made by a still in business retailer. Not an out of business manufacturer.
I has reading comprehension skillzzz.
We bought my wife's Sunday from RS, and it was a great experience. I have not bothered to call them since, but the deal was too good to pass up at the time (This was before IH hits the news).
