Not sure if this is the correct post location. I am about one hour from any trails so I ride dirt roads. The problem is I have dogs at different house that chase. One dog tries to bite my ankles comes very close and he/she is always in different location along the road (bushes, tall weeds). The second location the dog is not trying to bite me but the tires has punctured one already this one worries me most because its down hill and I have speed up. I've called county sheriff's office but apparently I need to let them bite me. I've tried pepper spray, yelling, and riding faster. Any ideas how to make them stop? These dogs belong to bubba's with no visible income renters/farm hand's. So even if they bite what you gonna do?

call your county sheriff's dept and give them the location of the dogs, they can have them picked up by the humane society.

Bear Spray

I've tried pepper spray
If you have tried the little pepper spray like the one a woman carries in her purse it won't have enough uummph to get their attention.
Go to REI's web site and order up a can of "Bear Spray". That stuff sprays 30' and it is powerful stuff.
It fits in your bottle cage too!

Just dont spray it into the wind or you will be very, very sorry. If you use this tactic you need to get them pretty much in the face for it to be immediately effective. Also, the dogs will remember you and particularly the can of bear spray so after you hit them with it once they should keep their distance, especially if you draw and point the can at them. As an additional bonus once you spray an animal with OC or "bear spray" it will get on their coat and stay there until either their owner rinses it off of them or it dries and works off naturally. It is common that if the dogs have owners that they will cross-contaminate the owners when they run home and rub up against them or whatever. Always be prepared for retalliation when dealing with "bubba's"... bear spray works great on them too.

if the owners are bubba's, pepper spray/bear spray will only piss 'em off. You only want to keep the dogs from messing with you. Water doesn't hurt, doesn't leave a trace of evidence...
Yeah it will definately piss them off. However, in the span of the 30 minutes time it will take for them to begin to pry their eyelids open and start to breath normally again you should be long gone. Of course what happens after that I cannot comment on, but personally I would'nt recommend riding in their neck of the woods again anytime soon. Evidence for what? Self defense from animal/ person attack is still legal in the United States.

Of course the OP could just find a different area to ride with less dogs/ bubba's and that would probably solve his problem as well.

Ridiculous...This doesn't sound like a very threatening situation and I think that bear spray may be taking it a little far. However, if you're into that kind of stuff, have at it MojaveHanna.

The water bottle may work for this situation and may just confuse them long enough for you to get down the road. I would probably just try to find another place to ride or perhaps you should look into a road bike.

If you had taken the time to read my second post, directly above your post, the second paragraph, you would see that I tend to agree with your perspective on this. It is not that I am "into this type of thing", it used to be my job to use chemical agents in a defensive manner. IF OC was the OP's option I was simply stating some facts regarding it's usage. Oleoresincapsicum or "OC"/ bear spray is something that I have had extensive use with. I have used it many times on people and a few times on dogs, it works good if you dont get any on the wrong people, that is the real issue with it.

Once again, I personally would simply find another area to ride. I have found that it is nearly impossible come out on top when entering into this type of situation but the OP can do as he pleases.

I've found that yelling NONONOOOseveral times is enough to stop a playful dog from chasing. Another thing is that the dogs owner might hear and it lets them know that their dog is being a PIA. It all depends on where you are though, some dogs (along with their owners) aren't all that civilized...it might not be all that effective in Bubbaville.
