DNA Bike shope (Mesa)

Hello to all my MTB riders out here in AZ! I know this is the wrong place to post this but I wanted to make sure our community knew about this!

Customer service at DNA (Mesa) is HORRIBLE and that might be doing them justice. I have never felt very welcomed in the store to begin with. When the above comments indicated "if your not spending a lot of money or buying a new bike, they dont seem to consider you a real customer" is extremelly accurate. Due to the fact that they are the closet LBS to my home in Las Sendas I thought I would give them a chance. I just reciently purchased an 2010 Epic Marathon for myself and a 2010 Era Epic Carbon for my wife. I called them first to see if they would price match what Oro Valley bicycles did, they laughed in my face and I quote " Yea right, go enjoy your bike...infact if your getting that price buy me one too" I called in a week later to ask a question about the Roval oversized hubs, Don an employee who works there asked if my name was Phillip, I stated yes. He then proceeded to ask me if I baught the bikes from them, I told no; "On how much I would really love to answer your question about Roval wheels contact the bike shop you purchased the bikes at" was his response! Complete TOOL BAG. By no means am I telling people not to spend there money at this shop, just be aware of the kind of people your dealing with. B/C Don and the other guys who work there are complete Arse holes its not fair to the few employees there who seemed to care about there potiential customers.

I for one will never spend any more of my money at this shop. You would think with the economy in the shape that its in a shop of this potiential would pride itself on great customer service. Hopefully someone from Specialized reads this review and does something about the way this shop treats people.

Like I mentioned above I purchased my bikes from Oro Valley bicycles (Oracle Location) in Tucson. It speaks volumns that a customer is willing to drive 100+ miles to shop. I know there are other bike shops in the valley area that are great. I'm just from tucson and a good friend refered me to Paul at the shop and I decided to drive down there.

Great customer service and great prices. See Paul he is the store owner

I've never been to the DNA shop in Mesa, as I live in N. Phoenix, but I have been to the Scottsdale DNA location several times. The guys there are very friendly and have answered all the questions I've had, worked on my bikes (which I didn't buy there), and helped me every way possible. The Mesa location might be different, but the Scottsdale location rocks!
Interesting first post .

I've been lurking in the obituaries to get cheered up.....
I call BS - Riding since '08, from AJ but says he's in Las Sendas, 1st post. probably another arrogant Las Sendas noob who moves in and then acts like they own the trails. So you want a store in a low-demand real estate market like Oro Valley to price compare to a place where the real estate is totally different? And you're cheap enough to go to an LBS 100 miles away rather than support your LBS or have the skills to buy and build from online, but you want specific dealer support? And you call, rather than walk in there and talk to people face-to-face when you've got some bizzarro issue -- you must be the doosh if they knew your name just from your story on the phone.

I dont care for Specialized or their price structure, so I dont shop at DNA, but Don is the owner and I've known him since they opened and ridden with him a dozen times - he is a Spec guy no bones about it, but also a good guy within his business model. You might not like Spec's prices and dealer policies - that is all open upfront info that you can take or leave, but don't slam a guy personally when everything in your post screams "UNSATISFIABLE CUSTOMER".

Can't wait to meet you on Hawes - you'll be one of the new ones skidding through the trail, not understanding trail etiquette, widening the turns. Do you move rocks too?

I move rocks.
I know DNA is not everybody’s favorite shop, but it is mine. I was a total nooby when I first walked in there 3 years ago. I got great info on the trails in the area, advice on parts to upgrade my very budget Haro V3, I bought some parts from them and I shopped around for others. I ended up buying my Yeti ASR from them 2 years ago and have always been happy and felt comfortable when going in the shop. I spent 200 bucks there yesterday, but most of the time I just go in and shoot the breeze. That being said the shop is a boutique not a bargain store. They have some specials, and only carry a cretin line of products. I spend money there as well as shop for bargains in other stores or on line when I want to try other products or can get what I want at for a good discount.

What I have found is if I go in to this shop and say I want a particular item for a specific low price, I’m likely to be disappointed. But if I go in and say what is a good tire/peddle/grip/shoe and, what’s the best price you can do? I normally end up buying one or two items there and shopping around for the others. That seems to work for me.

I know Don pretty well, if this was his response "On how much I would really love to answer your question about Roval wheels contact the bike shop you purchased the bikes at" you probably deserved it. And actually Don is the owner, which makes this even funnier!
IF and I mean a real big IF we are getting the whole story- then that is pretty poor. But I will defer my decision until I actually go there. It sounds a little "unsatisfiable" to me like Cholla mentioned and I know- I run my own by appointment only motorcycle service shop. I usually pre screen my customers politely and when I come across a guy that I know is gonna be a pain in the butt I send them to someone else- I don't have time for the headache. Sounds like the guys at DNA may be too. However- like I said if it is true there are ways to solve the issue in an equitable fashion. I don't need Don's side of this and will be in contact to see if he can answer some questions about the used SPec I just bought although I will stick to my LBS for other stuff (Swiss since 1980). If nothing else the OP just piqued my interest and I will go to DNA just to see. The dude's plan may have backfired!

Well , at least DNA is getting positive exposure out of a very lame first post .
Yes, this is the dude's first post and it is a bag on a bike shop post, so we all know what is really going on here. Nonetheless, the post does shed some light on DNA and other bike shops.

There are different types of shops. Among them are the boutique shop and the deep discount LBS.

As mentioned here, DNA is a boutique shop. Don is a very nice guy and quite professional when it comes to operating his business. However, DNA is not a deep discount kind of place. Go to the Slippery Pig if you want a deep discount and don't need a Specialized. I have purchased my last three bikes from DNA (my road bike and kids' mountain bikes). No major complaints.

Oh, did I mention that all bike shops suck.

You, a customer at DNA?!?! No wonder you have issues... hahaha
For the most part, after 6 years, I've severed ties with DNA Mesa not because of Don, who has always run his business well, and in fact, worked deals with me, but rather, because of some unfavorable experiences with the employees. I got burnt-out on the b.s. (I may not know a LOT, or even enough about bikes, but I DO know, that if my EBB screws come out, I don't need a new frame.) I know plenty of people who don't care for the shop, and plenty who do. Name a store, and you'll always find both.

So we're back to that? :D

Scandalous, but as a matter of fact, lately I have dared to don the lycra. So far, nobody has thrown-up. At least not in front of my face.

Re CK... ...even if purchased from DNA...
Dna

My particular experience is nothin but positive, in fact I live in the FAR NW valley and will only use DNA (scottsdale) The service, knowledge, inventory, support all are well above my expectation. I know for a fact when I head east I'll have what I went there for, even a nagin little brake rub on a saturday afternoon. (thanks Ted)

I've spoken with Don in Mesa, Just to thank him for his business philosophy making my cycling easier.

Hmmm. I was in the market for a new Enduro and ended up buying it from DNA, who not only price-matched, but beat another local spec. dealer. I generally buy locally from Pig or Rage, but I had a very positive experience at DNA Mesa. I knew what I wanted and was out the door in 15 minutes.

I usually wear Lycra. Baggy shorts are for posers.
