I recently added a BB7 to the front of my old Fisher Sugar with great result. And after seeing the availability of adapter options for the rear I thought it might be a worthy upgrade. My frame is lacking the mounting tabs for disc.

Has anyone experience doing this or seen these things installed and operational? Not really concerned about the weight.

The "Brake Therapy" is very nice but pretty pricey to add to my old ride at 150 bucks (plus the brake).

Then I came across this on ebay. The vendor has been responsive to questions and provided pictures; has good feedback, but I can't find a review anywhere of anyone using it.

New Frame (or stick with v-'s)

I'd look into a new frame for around four to six hundred, having someone add tabbs to your old one and having it re-painted,and shipped would be more$.brk therepy usually requires specific hubs and it's ment for brk/suspension jak on larger travel bikes.

Thanks for the info, looks like the cleanest install available, least expensive and will work on my Fisher frame. Now if I can find one. Wrote a dealer, Jersey Cycles, I'll see what they've got to say. Any other suggested sources welcome.

Mullet? Yeah, it's an old ride, but it's updated and rides well enough to be worthy of this much investment (w/ this adapter and a Avid BB7 less than 100 bucks) . I ride enough steep stuff to appreciate the better modulation I'd get, not to mention in the wet. We have some challenging trails cut through old quarries and phosphate mines, now grown over and very scenic with elevation you wouldn't think we'd have here in FLA.

If you search "DM-UNI" on eBay you will find one of the A2Z adapters. Price is usually $30 - $40 with shipping. Well worth it, IMO; I just used one on a late '90s Schwinn frame w/o disc brake mounts. Using Azonic Outlaw standard 135mm rear wheel, Avid BB7s matched up just fine to the rotor on the wheel. Very sturdy.

I am not familiar with the Fisher Sugar, but I can tell you the A2Z adapter works best on bikes with meaty (thick) aluminum dropouts and an upper edge / surface of the dropout that blends smoothly into the seatstay.

Thanks for the info. I ordered one last night and will give it a try. $42 delivered. Looks like it should fit from pics and posts elsewhere I've been able find. We'll see..
I also had a $5 coupon from Jenson, and now a '09 BB7 on the way for less than 60 bucks.
If it doesn't work I'm not out too much.
I'll post a pic if successful and anyone is interested.

If I can figure out how I'll post some pics of mine installed. Don't crank down the screws too tight - you will make the silver plate convex i.e. bend it around the sides of the dropout. In fact, I would use a stack of washers around the screws ~2mm less in thickness than the dropout to give you something to tighten against. If this makes no sense to you now, it will when you install it...

Thanks for the post. Nice job on the mod, looks very sturdy. I'm trying to avoid drilling into the frame/dropout, but I guess it's not any big deal.
Looking at your dropouts, they seem similar to mine in size and the way they're formed off the frame. It gives me hope this will work on my Fisher.

Here is a straight-on left sided pic - if you need a specific angle, let me know. I will, at some point, take this back off, mark where the rack mount screw hole is in the dropout on both sides of the adapter, then drill out the hole and tap the back side of the A2Z adapter (black part) for something like an M6 or M8 screw. This would provide two points of attachment for the adapter - first one being the QR skewer / axle bolt - to prevent it from rotating counterclockwise with braking.

I think the most important thing with mounting this adapter is to have the 'shoe' resting tight against the top surface of the dropout / top of chainstay, preventing rotation during braking. It is also not a bad idea to get rid of the QR and use one of the allen-keyed skewers that you can really crank down to hold everything tightly.

Thanks for the photo. Looks like your bike is a perfect candidate for this mount. I'm hoping my dropout has enough length to it. There will be very little, if any, of the rear part sticking out the back. No rack mount hole for two point attachment. Sounds like a good idea though, it will keep the unit from rotating back and misaligning if braking while going backward.
Also hope the 160mm BB7 I ordered lines up okay.

What model year is your Sugar?

Wouldn't you just get the Disc-0-Mount made specifically for 2000 - 2005 Trek/Fisher/Klein frames? I had one on my Trek 8000 and currently have it on my Sugar. Either on eBay or any Trek/Fisher dealer can get it for you in a few days if they don't have one in stock. I paid $20 for mine from the LBS, but don't know what they are selling for these days.

The Gary Fisher part number is 87855 and is called Trek Disc-o-Mount.

Yeah, I came across this and thought I had a light weight easy fix.
Unfortunately my 2000 Sugar 3 frame doesn't have the two mounting tabs for the adapter.
I'll be giving the A2Z UNI adapter a try when the brake arrives in a couple of days. Too bad it's so much heavier. At first glance it looks close to whether it'll fit or not w/o some modification.
