Anyone done this before and want to enlighten us how to do it right?

Not going for super light weight here, I just have a 02 SID carbon that is going to be on a non-disc frame and I want to paint it silver. How do I shave the disc tabs and do all the painting?

Anyone at all done this before?? kidding nino...

some help...

here's the link to my "project SID":
https://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=11480&highlight=sid+project

and here's a pic on how i shaved away the disc-adapters:

upon closer inspection you will see that the left lower leg is reinforced around the disc-adapter.it's thicker to take the abuse from the discbrake. shaving away of the discadapter alone saves only about 9g.so make sure also to shave the thicker part around.just take care not to weaken the tube by shaving too much...as you can see the initial part was done with a shaving machine, after that i took some emery cloth to make for a nice finish.
as mentioned above you may need some primer on magnesium. i had mine painted by a car-painter and he used 2-compound auto laquer. weighs just 3g...to finish off you need some new stickers.

good luck!

So you saved about 75g with shaving and repainting? Is that just a beltsander you're using there?

By the way anyone who says SIDs are flexy and have crappy travel need to get a 02 carbon one and take the time to adjust it properly. I'm 160lbs and never had a flex issue, and the fork works like a dream, never even had to clean the seals.

on another note nino, didn't you mention once that you tried using FSX carbon lowers and they were actually heavier? Whats the deal with those, because that would actually look cool with the carbon look on my bike
