A friend of mine who owns a bike shop told me the Trail SL frames looks similar to the Al Flash, but on the Cannondale website the Trail SL frame specifies its double butted, mechanically formed, 6061 alloy. From the description of the Flash frame the only difference seems to be the last one is hydro formed?

I think the name “Trail” might be an attempt to differentiate from the “cross-country” Flash?

If so what is the longest travel fork will the Trail SL frames be able to handle?

Thanx for any information on this subject.

The geometry is the same, but the Flash has the SAVE chain stays from the Synapse. That should make the frame more compliant. Judging by the looks of the head tube, it's probably stiffer in the front as well. The Flash also uses a BB30, it seems like the Trail doesn't.
