Sometimes I'm a ballerina

Sometimes I'm a ballerina, as on my toes I dance lightly on the pedals.
Sometimes I'm a jockey, as I move synergistically with my steed.
Sometimes I'm a conductor, my motions and rhythm bringing out the best from my two wheeled orchestra.

Sometimes I'm an offensive lineman, using brute force and bouncing off things.
Sometimes I'm a coward, tentative, slow, trepidation leading to failure.
Sometimes I'm an oaf, clumsily lumbering, out of synch, out of time, and out of breath.

I have scars from all the times I have tried and failed
but the scars are all worth it because

Sometimes, I'm a ballerina. :)

Ha, my girlfriend called me a ballerina the other day when I was getting dressed to go ride and had on nothing but my black bib tights. Not what you meant but thought it was funny.

My question is, how do I go from a state of total, in sync bliss to a klutz in the blink of an eye?

Walt
Let me know when you figure that one out. I was riding this past weekend. I was in a field which was fairly flat, no trees or obstacles, just a trail and I was going about 20mph not paying attention. I drifted to the banked edge of the trail and got stuck in that area where your tires are not gripping to climb out of the banked edge but your weight is shifted to keep going that way and I am sure that it must have been a truely funny sight to see a guy in the middle of a field clipping along at about 20mph with nothing to cause an accident and all of a sudden see him hit the dirt. Yep, that must have been one funny sight.

Yeah, I felt like a ballerina alright. A 300# ballerina with club feet.

Did you write that, Becky?

If you like it then, "Yes, I did." If not then, "Write THAT piece of crap???"

Actually I wrote it while I was riding one day last week. I was in that ballerina mode and it was like I was in a zone and I was just fascinated by the feeling of synchronization and flow. Of course that fascination caused me to think about it, and hence I over-thought it, and wound up at the other end of the spectrum where it seemed as though my legs and the crank arms were never designed to work together. Anyway, I wrote it during the ride and then just had to remember it so I could type it up when I got home (usually my failing). I am just an overly sensitive emotive sort I guess. But hey, I have scabs on my shins and THAT means things aren't too bad.

Later,

Sometimes, but I'm really descreet about it. It's mainly just a weekend thing for me. I'm not totally into it or anything, just curious about this new and different side of me....

What do you mean "DID I?" I'm living in the present with this one.

Been a long time

A long time since anyone posted any poetry so thank you.

Oh, and I only feel like a Ballerina when I dress like one which has happened on rare occassions being a person with more nerve than taste or sense for that matter.

The true failing of the human mind is that you cannot unsee things.

...in elementary school because it happened to rhyme with my first name (Ina). Original, eh?

Nice poem. There are days when the flow is right and probably feels the same as doing the perfect pirouette.
