I recently bought a Medium Stumpy FSR expert. I am 5' 7" and have 28" inseam.

I am used to riding Small bikes both my hardtails were smalls. But the price and the prodding from my friends got me to purchase the bike. I am happy with the bike but when I get on my HT I feel more at home. Did I really screw up with the frame size or do I just need to get used to riding a FS bike.

I'm 5' 7" - but with a 30" inside leg. I ride a Small FSR 120 which is generally OK, though sometimes I feel I'd like to stretch out a little more.

That must be quite a stretch down to the pedals - did you have to shorten the seatpost?

I guess my inseam is more like 28.75 but still :)

Yeah I cut off some Excess on the seatpost which is Normal for me. Any bike I have had to date I cut Seatpost and Handlebars down to Size.

I can stand over it without hitting anything even on a hill but it's no Small when I am in the Tight stuff. I may try a smaller stem but I am afraid that if I go to much smaller I may unweight the front wheel to much.

I was in the same boat you are...

Hey Mugg,

My first impressions of my size large SJ were just like yours...I rode medium frames prior to that (i'm 6'), but all the signs pointed me to a large.
I was crashing off the trail around corners & generally felt 'weird' on the bike...too tall and stretched out.
That is, until I changed the 110mm (i think) stock stem w/ a 90mm, and moved the seat around.
HUGE difference! Have your shop do a swap on the stem (don't let them charge you if you just bought bike from them!) and give it a few rides.
When I hop on my old size M hardtail nowdays, I feel almost like Im riding a kids bike!

Give it a chance like i described above & write back...

John
