So I'm on my third X-Caliber warranty frame, but there's something odd about this one. Well, things odd about this one. The last two frames were both the orange color of the 06's (which I originally had), and had special warranty stickers on the downtube. I just picked up the third one yesterday, and it has the shorter seat tube extension and wider tire clearance of the newer frames, but also has cantilever mounts and the black and grey paint of the '05's. Also, even though the bottom bracket, headset, and disc mounts were chased and faced there weren't the usual warranty department stickers anywhere on the frame. Don't get me wrong, it looks pretty hot with the white Reba and pretty much black everything else but I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this combination.

May be an 05 frame that was used at one point, but not for long. Or maybe your LBS had this frame laying around and gave it to you.

I thought of that too, but its definitely a new frame. It was still bubble wrapped from the factory and in the shipping box when I got it. I'm almost certain its not an '05, because the 05' X-cal that I rode would barely fit a 1.8 Nanoraptor in the rear, and this one has room to spare with a Bontrager 2.2 XR.

Well maybe its not a 'freak' frame, maybe its a frame that is jsut for you.

And think of it this way, you can now tell your friends that you have a custom ride, and it didn't cost you a cent extra

I received the same type of frame as a warranty replacement for my yellow paragon, but mine is painted the new paragon red. Looks sweet. The canti bosses were kind of a bummer but I can deal with it rather than waiting for another frame.

Looks like there is more clearance but I wouldn't know for sure since I no longer have the 2.2 Jones XR rear tire. I am running a 2.1 Kenda Klaw rear as a winter tire and it has plenty of room.

I don't see a need for anything bigger than a 2.1 rear tire anyway. This is a XC race frame, it's built for speed. Save the fatties for the training bike.
