DH racing in SoCal????

Besides Fontana's Southridge series...which is only about 4-5 races, are there any other DH race series in SoCal?

With such a large MTB DH community you would think there would be more organised competetion in California?!

Theres some races in Santa Ynez. Check out RideSB.com. The course isn't anything amazing. Shorter and more mellow than fontana though. Unfortunately all the good DH in Socal is on multiuse trails, or just flat out illegal. No resorts nearby willing to run races anymore :'(.
DH is for those who can't climb!
Or for those who don't have much to do at work due to injuries to thier riders....

Loan me your spare and we can hit up some jump tracks.
so cal sucks for racing

Fontana is weak. You get 1:30 of tech and a 1:00 of peadling = 1 weak dh. The santa barbra dh courses are just as weak. There are some great dh trails. Dont ride with bob. We could use a real promoter in so cal.

Whoa whoa whoa. Santa Ynez is NOT Santa Barbara. There are excellent DH trails in SB, but nothing to race on. Let's not confuse people here.

true.......
I hate to say this (because I'm from socal too), but serious DH racing is more in Canada, Colorado, and especially Europe. Here in socal, all the 2wheel talents are either doing motorcross or motorcycle road racing. Yes socal has a huge MTB community, but most DH stuff here would be considered hacks. The problem (or blessing, depending on how you look at it) with living in Socal is that there are sooo many activities to do, from sport to cultural & arts to social activities, that nobody cares to organize any sort of DH stuff, especially where there aren't any big money involved. Mtb'ing in socal is really a hobby where you hit the trails for a few hours and then come home to chill with a cold one with your buddies and bs with the girls.
Actually the main problem is that Big Bear shut down DH Racing 8 years ago. Since that happened there is no good venue for racing. Before that time Socal was pretty close to the center of the universe for DH racing worldwide.

When are the operators of Snow Summit/Bear Mountain going to realize that they can now operate a safe environment for DH racing/Freeriding and why haven't they figured out who is providing insurance for places like Northstar?

When Dick Kun retiers or dies, DH will come back to socal.

Its my understanding they are trying to save a buck by self-insuring. So its the catastrophic stuff that comes along with DH [loss of limb, decapitation, death, etc.] that is no bueno for self insurers.

Not quite sure what that means? Are you saying the trails, or the riders suck?
That is a total BS excuse. How much money does Whistler pull in during the off season with biking now?

Sorry, this is not directed at you, but at the idiots at Snow Summit/Bear Mountain. Can anyone loan me $50M so I can buy them both?
Didnt big bear shut down in 04. Closer to 6 years ago. It doesnt really matter.

They were also getting a lot of pressure from the forest service due to pirate trails that started on the top of snow summit and then went on/through forest land.

The real issue is lack of legal DH trails in SoCal. Even the best promoter cant hold a race of there are no good trails.

The funny thing is that Snow Summit is still contributing to creation of off-Summit trails that are so-called illegal. This is the main point I do not understand about Summit. They are most likely doing more damage and creating more issues for the forest Service in their current business plan than if they created a really fun bike park and constantly maintained the trails. The issue here: MONEY!!!

I have thought about this for hours. The only reason I can think that Summit does not create a bike park and reap the benefits is because they just don't care to do anything. It that simple....

Bingo
one hill, bathrooms....rent a bull dozer, get insurance, few weeks of shoveling and presto mtn biking in SoCal....then buy a chairlift
Well i attended my first DH race in SoCal and it went along pretty smooth. The shuttling was a bit of an issue, but otherwise was a good event. Just wish there was more to attend... I guess Bootleg Canyon is the next option after Fontana.

Any racing in AZ that you guys know of?
