DH/FR spots and people in Idaho...

1648 Views 26 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  xbrinelax2011
I have ridden most of the resort mountains i.e. Bogus Basin, Brundage, Tamarac(closed)...I am looking for some DH/FR spots in my area that I don't know about...I am not a big climber so preferably spots that can be shuttled or hiked fairly easily...

I don't mind traveling a couple of hours for a days worth of riding...Any suggestions??

Thanks all!

Also, any riders in the boise, meridian, cascade, mcCall areas looking for people to ride with and or help build/maintain, I am looking for a regular spot to ride and I have a big truck for shuttling...

What kind of bike do you ride? Of the places you have mentioned, what is your favorite trail and your preferred terrain? You like stunts or more natural riding? In the past, we have done a lot of trail building up around Bugus but the crew was small and the work was large. Burnout happened so a fresh infusion of new excitement may renew those efforts.
Jug Mtn Ranch near McCall has a steep line and some stunts built. If you go, ask at the clubhouse for Jeremy's trail.

I'm not really familiar with the names of the trails and runs...I ride a lot at Hulls gulch and the old highway...If I go to boge I just hike and ride, same in mcCall...I just find something cool and hike it and bomb it...I missed brundage DH last weekend, but I know the lifts are running. I really like going fast! Jumps and techy stuff is fun, but I am a speed freak...I would like to learn to do more stunts and pull hits more though...I just don't know any DH/FR guys around here that are willing to deal with my learning curve..

I would totally be into building and maintaining though...
Fug yeah! That's the kind of trail I'm looking for. I'm going to have to ride that one soon. Looks fantastic and props to the guys who busted their tails to build it!

The Jug mountain trails look sick! Hopefully I can get up there soon...Thanks for the footage and info...
That video captures almost the entire length of the one freeride trail built so far. It doesn't really show the height of the road gap that Jeremy hits. That's the one after the wallride where Josh and Jeremy split up. That wood ramp is about 8' tall and its about 18' for a good landing.
How long does it take to do a top to bottom run? The construction work looks top notch and the video is well edited, really makes a showcase of the features.
The trail has a few hundred feet of vertical and I guess it takes about 30 mins to ride as a loop from the clubhouse. Yeah, the video is really cool. 208 Productions is local and they usually make snowmobile movies, but it looks like they're making some MTB ones in the summer

When and where?!?
I rode the jug ranch trail .
Its really nice but, weird! I didn't hike it before I rode down and its funny as in, big jump, small jump, big table, tiny step up ,big double ,tiny double . Unless you know the trail its weird . The road gap is a good 8ftx12 and the landing is shallow . 2 of the rock drops are to flat which I almost eat stem on. The wall ride is SWEET , jump after not so much.
Over all I really like it but, Its something you have to ride 20 times to get the feel of .
I'll be going back soon.
Sounds pretty rad...Thanks for info./review..It looks sweet! I'm not big on chewing titanium/aluminum...I think I will stay way from those rock drops...The rest sounds pretty sick though...

Is it fast? How much pedaling?
Not alot of pedaling but some. Its only fast in 2 spots or for me it was . I'm pretty slow and hate pedaling , so it worked out great !
Thanks for the review, I'll let the guys building it know.
We should have a group ride up there ! Get some people together and ride it in . YES , no ?
ditto. Maybe something like saturday the weekend after this next?
Well the 6th 7th and 8th isbeerfest soo not many people would show . Maybe the next weekend ? ABLACKCAR or anyone else wanna shuttle shingle creek sunday or monday ? Anyone been up to Tamarack lately? Teton pass has gotten me wanting to ride more than ever !:p
I'm totally down for whenever...I need a chainguide before I do any real riding though...I am also waiting on fox to send me a new spring for the rear...but I think I should that stuff figured out by then...keep me posted on what the deal is and I will be there, sounds rad...

BTW...When and where is this "beerfest"??? I NEED to know...
