I'm looking for making a DH/FR frame, out of Aluminium.I am building it arround a good DH frame. With the rear shock I plan using a ATV shock.I'ts cheap and It has good travel.I'll post a picture with the frame I plan on using as a rendering. The fork I will use will probably have 180mm of travell. Can you tell me what kind of tubes can I use ,and what to weld AL with?
I will use this frame as a rendering, but probably with a straight TT.

Experience is Key

How many frames have you made so far?

Use what you've learned thru that process to apply to the FS design. We had been building bikes for 3+ yrs before we attempted out 1st FS design. And even then we used the Ventana rear end kit. In fact our 1st FS bike failed in a spot due to a combination of factors. Once we had a few of those under our belt we decided to try and stretch out a bit and do something a bit different by manipulating the Ventana design into a 6" (F&R) slack angle AM/lite FR machine. We worked on this design for 6 weeks before we started cutting tubes. Thru all of this I was pretty amazed at how "complicated" a simple lever-actuated-single pivot design could be. It was interesting to see subtle changes ripple thru the rest of the bike.

I'm new in frame building ,but even if this doesnt work I'll learn from the mistakes I've made.
I'm not going to build this right away.I't will probably be after my birthday ,next year.I have a FS frame with a small shock.I'll probably use it as a donor.Tomorow im starting the rough scetches for the frame.

Is that TF bike steel triangle?

My advice is stick with steel for your first frame unless you already have lots of experience welding aluminum.

Steel is a great material for welding and while the bike will end up slightly heavier it will likely be safer to ride for your first build (others may have different opinions).

I am about 20% of the way through my first build. I also recommend that your first few builds be hardtail bikes because they are less complex.

Thank's for the replyes ,I think that I won't be able to weld it.The welding is going to be done by a professional welder. But this bike is too complex i'm going to try and build something like the 08 Turner DHR.
