Need help with parts suggestions to convert a dedicated geared 29er frame to singlespeed. Can't afford new frame, what is a reputable part to attach to frame? Are there any issues with chains being thrown off or with tension? Do these devices work well? Thanks in advance for suggestions and recommendations.

I have tried the Surly tensioner and a DMR tensioner. the Surly tensioner spring blew up in the middle of a ride, but I might have over-tightened it. The DMR tensioner is not as smooth but it seems more reliable.

i use a DMR STS Tension Seeker and spacers from an old cassette. no noise and never lost the chain. got mine from www.bikeman.com
