Hey is anybody in Jersey going to this today? It looks pretty cool; a little bummer it's on father's day but at least its earlier in the day.

Come test ride the latest carbon road models like the new SuperSix from Cannondale. For the mountain biker in you we will have the new Cannondale Rize, the most exciting trail bike to hit the mountain bike market in '08. Come to Sterling Forest from 9am-1pm. Test ride a Cannondale mountain bike on the four mile dedicated mountain bike trail just outside the visitor's center.

Is it legal to mountain bike the trails in Sterling Forest? I thought the a-hole bitter old fart hikers had bikes unfairly locked out of that park and all it's trails.

nope its legal, I'm only a beginner but my bike shop said to go there and the whole demo was there with mtb and road bikes. There are also a ton of biking signs! it was a nice fun low key ride perfect for somebody myself who is a beginner. They may have harder trails there but I didn't bother searching, sorry!

I am surprised to hear this. I was always told it is strictly illegal to ride anything but the trail around the lake.........and that is just not all that great.

all of the other singletrack was off limits to mountain biking. Can anybody confirm if this has changed? If so, that might open up some serious potential for that area....also...could actually connect from ramapo mountain / ringwood area which could create "epic" style loops.

Does anybody know if what "2hottay" is saying above is indeed true? I mean no disrespect,....it just seems suspect to me...based on past information.

You could always call:
New York State Parks: Sterling Forest® State Park
Contact Information:
116 Old Forge Road
Tuxedo, NY 10987
Phone: (845) 351-5907

Does anyone else think it's odd that a state park has a registered trade mark for its name?

I did only go on one trail and it was near/ around a lake. I did eventually get to a spot where it split into two different trails but I stayed on the easier one. I'm not sure where the other trail took you but I do know there is at least one trail there good for beginners which is the trail I was and you are allowed to ride on it.
