My current tires are a Nobby Nic 3.0 in the front and a Rocket Ron 3.0 in the rear. This past year we had a very wet summer and fall and the Rocket Ron did not do so great on all the wet roots. I did like the Nobby Nic. I have found multiple tire deals under $50/tire and am looking for your experiences with these tires for typical rocks, roots, dirt of New England trail riding.

1. Terrene Mcfly 2.8 for the rear
2. Terrene Chunk 3.0 for the front
3. Vittoria Bombolini 3.0 potentially for both front and rear
4 . Vittoria Conoli 3.0 potentially for both front and rear

For slightly more money I can get a WTB Vigilante 2.8 for the front and a Ranger 2.8 for the rear. I really liked the Ranger in the past (light supple casing) for a rear tire, but that thing wore out FAST.

I can’t speak for the list of tires you have there other than yes the Rocket Ron doesn’t like wet anything. But one thing I’ve discovered is how insane the traction is with the studded 45Nrth Wrathchild. If you have a fatbike I recommend these tires and rolling out the studs and put them in a set of winter Fatbike tires. You wouldn’t be out a thing and these things grip to the moon. full disclosure, they aren’t cheap At $195 a piece. I live in Maine and i can ride at an 8/10’s pace anywhere with these. They are not fast either.

It's only a deal if it works.

Chunk is OK up front. McFly not much better than RoRo out back. Bombo and Cannoli aren't good front tires when it's wet.

Schmeg, I just wish the Wrathchild was a real 3.0. I have a pair of the first iteration so cannot say what the newer production is like, in terms of fatness and volume. Love em tho'.

I see you made your mind up, not sure about a semi-slick (Slaughter) in wet conditions but for 17.00 kind of a throw away tire if it don't work. I'll be interested in your take on the 2.8 Butcher. I just picked one up off PB for a good price and I like how they added the int. knobs because of the width, sorta resembles an ass-guy. Wont be on mine until April...

If the weather stays how it is in NH the past 2 weeks, I could be on mine by mid-March. Headed to Spider Mountain in TX in a week, but I will be on my Honzo ESD for that trip.
