Any suggestions for DC/Baltimore friendly shops that keep singlespeed parts (not necessarily complete bikes) in stock? I'm looking for a 16T King Cog for a race on Sunday.

Here's my experience of places that keep things in stock, and stuff I'd seen there. (I don't work for any of them!)

-Bike Lane in Burke - Surly & IF frames
-City Bikes in Adams Morgan - Singleators and Surly hubs
-College Park Bikes - ENO hubs, Phil Wood mtb and track stuff
-Performance Bikes - SRAM chains often on sale (you can also price match)
-REI in College Park - Big assortment of Salsa non-ramped chainrings in SS friendly sizes
-Revolution Cycles in Georgetown - Phil Wood track stuff

Any other shops to add to the list or where I can find my cog?

Not sure about LBS's in the area but I have a 16t ShimaNO BMX cog you can borrow for the race.

Not sure if he stocks the King Kogs...

I've done business with Baltimore Bicycle Services via e-mail (the best shop I have ever dealt with). He normally has a good SS selection. It is a hole in the wall, but the service is exceptional. Hope this helps.

It sounds like you have a few local offers. I assume you are going to the Cranky Monkey race on Sunday. I plan on being there. I do not have a King Kog, but I do have a 16 T Gusset cog. I will throw it in my bag and if you cannot find one before then, feel free to use this one.

I got some special ones made from pressed Beluga Caviar, but they were too soft and the teeth rounded out after one revolution. Quite a waste, if you ask me.

Next I'll try carbon nanotubes, if those dang NASA guys down the road didn't take so long!

Thanks James. I haven't ridden 2:1 in at least 2 years, and I figured I should try it out before racing with that ratio. On the last few rides I felt like I was too spinny. Anyways, don't worry about it, I'll stick with my 32:17 for this weekend.

Dang Karate Monkerers! You and JoeP have sped way up since riding those things. I know it can't be the training!

You ain't kidding about Zoorope either. I never touched a bike, slept and woke up really late everyday, ate massive amounts of food and vino, vegged out on the beaches... ahhhhhhhh. Oh well, DT and I can battle for DFL.
