I check the classifieds here on the forums and all I see are pieces. Does everybody that has a bike to sell dismantle it and sell it piece-by-piece? Are ya'll all kin to Johnny Cash?
Seriously, I check the classifieds in hopes of finding an affordable hardtail, but all I see are either parts, or if the bike is complete, its $2K+.

Most bikes in the classified section are the higher end models or have parts on them. Check craigslist or pinkbike you might just find something suitable for your needs

trdspectacoma, thanks for the advice. It seems around where I live everything offered on CL must from NBA forwards and centers. I'm 5'8" and it seems everything I see is 19" to 21" inch and up frames.

also you could go to your lbs and support he local economy. just don't buy a giant boulder (I love the bike but I wished i saved more and started with a better bike)

Most of the time you can get more $ if you part out too. That's probably why a lot of them are like that, or people just kept throwing takeoff parts in a box and unload it.

+1. Parts usually sell better than whole bikes.
