I ruptured my left biceps tendon playing hockey last night. Surgery to reattach it on Wednesday, then a long recovery period - 3 months before I can start strengthening exercises, 6 to 12 for hopefully full recovery.

This is not the way I wanted my summer to go. On a positive note, it is my left arm, both my legs still work, and I can ride a bike one-handed. Yeehaa

Holy Crap. That really sucks. That's a LONG recovery time. Will you be in a cast? Can they cast you sitting on a road bike so you have the right arm bend? Could be a good time to set up a fixed gear cruiser....front brake only....on the right.

Man,
Sorry to hear that Rob. That is certainly a bummer. Hopefully you will be able to use the trainer something like that to be able to keep in shape for ski season which will get you in shape for next year (or some killer Pugsley riding!!!!).

Key advice I can say is to heal up completely before going back out and trying to work though some pain. It may be a couple months, but you certainly don't want that turning into more than a year. One season lost is WAY better than multiple....

Good luck with the surgery...

ULTIMATE Frisbee, you flatlander! It's like football without pads. Sort of.

I cancelled the surgery and am getting a second opinion tomorrow from a specialist. Do I really need TWO biceps?

Sorry to hear that Rob! Hopefully your second opinion was better than the first... Here's to hoping for a speedy recovery. At least you didn't get your jugular slashed by a skate!

Jason, I hope you had a great trip down under. Unfortunately the second opinion concurred with the first and I had surgery last week. The surgeon I had was excellent; he is going to China with the Olympic team and has operated on a bunch of pro athletes. He even had an autographed picture of Lance on the wall and his nurse indicated that he had operated on Lance but couldn't tell me what it was all about. Mentally it is pretty difficult to be walking when others are riding but it sure beats hobbling around on crutches.

Damb it Rob. Steve and i were totally looking forward to getting back up there and riding with you this summer. And you had to go and do something selfish like hurt yourself. NOW what are we going to do?
Hey if you guys want to come back up I'm sure I can hook you up with a group to ride with.

Have a great weekend everybody
