Took a ride after work yesterday, since I was in Golden I went for Dakota Ridge. Let me just say.. those of you with ss rigs that can clean this entire ride are amazing.Yesterday was my first attempt with the SS at the trail ( I need to fix my FS and get my gears back hahaha) The first hill is a whole new beast to me now. I did not make the wodden steps, but made the rocky sections...somehow. I also walked portions in Red Rocks.. I have much to learn about SS in the Golden area. Had a great time as always!

A couple pics

AH.. Thanks for the info. I worried about that at first but so far I have been okay
The hardest part of Dakota on a SS would the steep section of wooden steps...everything else is cleanable for me (which ain't saying a whole hell of a lot). I could never get even close to getting up the steep steps. The first part of steps aren't so bad, but then recovering and hitting the steep section and maintaining momentum...fuggedaboutit. I only just came close to clearing it on my 1x9.
Cheers!

isn't it more about which ratio you're running vs. doing it on s SS?

Isn't it kind of cheating to run a granny ratio? :D
point is: you can run whatever you want, including one that would be best for dakota.
like the other thread - toughest front range trails - i do not see how dakota / mathews is not the toughest...while i am sure people can do dakota ridge / mathews winter without stopping I am positive that number is the fewest when compared to any other front range trail.

the climbs on DR, while steep, are comparatively short... unlike belcher or falcon which seem to go on forever.

for sure - but those rides can be ridden non stop by a fairly large population...dakota ridge / mw on the other hand...

Pansy. ;)
I cleaned that fecker (Deer Creek's Wall). It took me 50 attempts, but it shows that FS bikes can be better at uphilling sometimes.

And its on YOUTUBE!

Come talk to us when you ride from the bottom to the top of Deer Creek with no stops and no dabs.
