Would cross tires be ok for commuting on my 29er? I'm looking at the Jones cx.
Any recomendations?

I don't see why not, though unless you are riding anything technical, I would get a beefy road tire. The Vittoria Randonneurs are 700x38 and Kevlar for $29.99 from Nashbar. Last month they were $12.99, and I kicked myself for not buying a pair or three.

I have Tufo tubular 34mm CX Pros on my fixie, which I use for everything from commuting to general road riding to fireroading to semitechnical riding (if it gets too technical I'm walking).

I absolutely love the tires-they do nothing perfectly, but everything really well-a great all-round tire, plus they're light, and they wear like iron.

I use regular glue-on tubulars, but Tufo makes the same thing in a tubular clincher-just make sure the inside width of your rims is compatible with whatever Tufo requires-normally a rim like MA3, Open Pro, etc. will work.

You can also put sealant (Tufo or Stan's) in them for extra protection.
