Which one is better and why? I get to choose either one, price is the same. Which is worth more?
Crossmax SL or 517 laced to Hugi 240s?

well,
Crossmaxs are definately more bling.
however, a well laced 3x set of 517s on 240s in my opinion would be stronger.
overall hub quality on the Hugis is better, and maintenance is easier.
if you blow up a crossmax wheel your stuck for a while until you can get another, blow up a 517/240 and your riding the next day as long as your LBS has a decent rim in stock.

·the 240S are really nice hubs.
if you have a good mavic dealer nearby you don't have to wait long to get it fixed.
the SL are probably quite a bit pricier.
the custom wheel build lets you tailor your spokes to your weight/riding to go for ideal weight.
everything is a tradeoff. i would go with the 240S custom build for price/value.
