Ok, lets hear how large a tire, (and make and model) you have been able to work in a crosscheck with the stock fork. I have only gone 44 with the conti twister pro, would like to go bigger, (as there is plenty of room up front) but before purchasing, would like to hear what has worked.

maybe in the front

i'm skeptical about this, but if it works, i'm buying a pair. nanos are 52c. if that fits, i'm a happy man.

can anyone comment?
I remember hearing that a nano will fit in the front. I can't confirm this but I doubt it will fit in the rear. You'd definitely have to deflate the tire to get the wheel in the rear due to the front loading dropouts

I just put the nano from my KM on the front of my CC. I hope the pics show it OK, but basically, it won't fit. There's maybe 1mm of clearance on one side, maybe get 0.5mm to 1mm on each side with a perfectly true wheel, but in reality, it won't work. I usually run big apple 2.0s with fenders and they work fine.

Panaracer

I've run the Panaracer's on my XC and I have a pair of WTB Mutano's on right now: I'll try and get off my lazy @$$ and post some pics today. I've heard through the grapevine that WTB will have a newer 700x4X tire this year. Check the posts over on the 29'er or SS boards... I'm pretty sure that Shiggy had the scoop.
The guys over at the WebCyclery had Mutano's back in November, so if you're into those try giving them a call. Alfred E. ran out of the mutano's but they did have the Panaracer's in stock last I checked. There's also a link over on the 29'er board where rider-X posted a pic of one of his buddies riding a fixed XC with the Panaracer 45's; see if you can find that link. If you're into riding the dirt on an XC the Pana's or WTB's were the only real options for a wider tire.

On my black CC fork I got a Motoraptor 2.1 to fit. On my red bike's fork, not. Very violent rub, but I did do a long ride that way, frustrating with that rub going on. Heck of a ride though.
would be nice if surly could slightly open up for and frame for us on new series.
