My wife and I are coming to town for a few days (july 18th -27th) of riding and we wanted to camp in a primitive area rather than the usual pay to camp comercial camp grounds. We will be riding the 401 and others and would like to be in riding distance to the trails. Is this possible? I've been to the area (I lived in Denver for a few years) but never really checked out the local scene. Ant help from you locals would be wonderful. Also, would any of the bike shops in the area be willing to entertain two MTB's (for a fee or free) while folks went Rafting? Yes, I think that takes care of all my crazy questions. It would be so much easier to just bike to Co and leave the car home. Then I wouldn't have to worry about what to do with the bikes while rafting. Could anyone recomend a good rafting outfit around that area also? If you ever make it to KC Mo give a shout and I'll answer all your crazy concerns and questions ( I might even entertain a guided MTB tour of our trails )! Thanks!
On a side note I'm currently in KC Mo but have friends and have lived in san diego as well as denver and used to joke about how wierd it was that Folks from Co were friendly and receptive to folks from Mo relocating there but Ca wasn't. However Ca was very receptive and friendly to folks from Co. A strange dichotomy that cannot be reconciled hence the fact that i found i had to live in Co prior to moving to Ca. Yep...alright then.
There are several places to camp along the Gothic road on the way to the 401 trailhead and finding a spot w/in riding distance should not be a problem.
