Crash Replacement

816 Views 13 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  laxman2001
I've had a my trance for a few years now and have had my share of spills...especially learning on clipless & downhill. I noticed the last time i was out that the bike is kinda beat up and i'm worried that my last fall might have tweaked frame. :(

Long story short, i called Giant and spoke with their tech guy and he was super-helpful. He explained that they still have my year frame, and that they would indeed be able to work with the LBS i purchased it through to get me the replacement frame!

I have to say, i'm kinda shocked to hear how willing to help they were (or at least appeared to be on the phone). He also mentioned that they don't really have too much in the way of rules to have it replaced...so it's pretty straight-forward.

I'm curious though...has anyone else done this before? If so...who did you go through? How much did it run you? Did they hassle you, etc. Thanks in advance for the help guys. I'm planning on going down this weekend and talking to my LBS...heck, maybe they can get me into a newer-model-year frame for the same cost. Time will tell...i'll keep you posted.

I don't know how it will work out for you, but this was one of the things that attracted me to Giant when I purchased an Anthem X2 last December. I've heard similar scenarios before and you can't put a price tag on that kind of customer service. I'd bet they'll take care of you. Good luck.
I am pretty sure that you have to surrender your old frame in order to get a crash replacement.

What makes you think your frame is "tweaked?"

From what little I've heard, you do have to give up your old frame. Although whats cool is that some companies let you keep it (AFTER sawing through the frame to make it unusable).

If a bike company knowingly let you keep a broken frame and you got hurt using it; that would be lawsuit-o-rama.

Sorry, I'm confused as to the nature of your post. I figured they saw through it so that you don't lie for a free frame.

What I mean is if a bike company knowingly gave you a damaged frame back, that would be bad for them, legally speaking. Which is why they ask for the old frame (or saw through it and give it back).

the rear triangle specifically got a decent sized ding and my LBS commented on it. My camera decided to suck recently, or i would have accompanied this post with a picture.

I'm not looking for a free anything...obviously i'm paying for it. I spoke with a friend who sells giant and apparently they don't even need the frame...the local dealer just has to order it and thats all. I've even heard that they will sell frames cheap to existing owners who want something that hasn't been bent/flexed/beaten on. Who would have thought that CUSTOMER SERVICE would keep people coming back for more.

(I've put three people thru on Giant bikes since i got mine...i love 'em and now that i know they are willing to go the extra mile, i'll push even harder to get people using their product. In the end, we all benefit)

there's a chance you could just buy a rear triangle.
i was thinking about it...but if they are willing to sell me the entire frame at discount, then i'd probably just go that route. That way i'd start fresh with a frame that's got no dents/damage...you know?

Your money.

What shock do you have on your current frame? It's a pain in the @$$ to find those custom length shocks, so if you want to sell it to me I might be willing to buy it at the right price. PM me if you're interested.
Custom length shock? Pretty standard size and I'm sure that Fox made more than a handfull of them.

nah the 7.25" x 1.75" is not easy to find.
