Crank

No there are no compatibility issues with the larger big ring. The front derailleur may have to be moved up a touch. The bottom bracket may be the wrong length for the new crank but your shop should be able to tell you.

The headset is the bearings between the headtube and the fork steerer tube that allow the fork to rotate in the frame.

Why are you changing cranks and what's wrong with the headset?
i want to get a race face deus crankset and i was just wondering if the headset had anything to do with it because at the website while i was looking at the dues crankset, on the side it said "may we suggest" and it had the deus headset. so i wasn't sure if i needed it also. thx Rod. i want to change my drivetrain from an 8 speed to a 9 and i want to go with the sram X.0 derailleurs. I have the front derailleur, PG-970 11-34 sram cassette, and a PC99 hollow pin 9 speed chain.I plan on getting the X.0 twist shifters and the X.0 2006 rear derailleur soon. Do I need anything else ?

Nope - you don't even really need a new front derraileure.

I'd spring for new cable housing while you are at it... No sense to get better shifters and then have the same crappy performance due to dirty / worn housings.

The headset has nothing to do with the crankset.
I think you should look into trying to find an old XT cassette and get the SRAM X0 derailleurs/shifters.

That should work.

Oh, and it'd be STRONGer
I already bought a PG-970 11-34 sram cassette :( is the flack jacket any good ?

For cables, I just use the standard Shimano cables & housings that the LBS's carry in bulk. $2 a cable and like $1.50/ft for the housing.

I have used the Flak Jackets and a couple other high-zoot cable, and not really noticed any difference in performance at all..
