Crank length is a very personal item. What works best for you and your legs is what you should choose. There are other considerations of course; pedal strikes, etc...
For some reason I am better with and prefer 165mm on all my bikes. It just agrees with me the most. I spin rather than mash.
If you have the resources, try different lengths and hone in on what works best for you on a particular bike.
A lot of studies out there showing that longer crank arm length does not generate more power. Also, for DH minimizing pedal strikes is a significant advantage.
165mm all the way on DH, my other bikes I usually run 170mm. I don't feel any power difference between 170mm and 175mm,even on the SS
