ok. i have another question. my bike is set up for 7 speed through and through. i need a new crank set however. if i put a 8/9 speed crankset on my bike, will i have to replace anything else? if so, what is it? cause i have been reading about people who do this and don't even have to adjust their chain. help me please!!!!

You will be to use a new 8/9 speed setup with your current chain however you may have some rubbing issues if you cross up (more so then normal). I replaced 7 speed my cranks last year at school with 8 speed because my left crank fell off and i was given the 8s. I had some rubbing issues (2-7) and issues shifting into the low ring up front but i think that was due to a lack of inward travel by my front derailleur.

You could get an 8 speed chain to relieve the rubbing if you wanted.
