Crank Brothers New V3 Cleat????

1857 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  scooter916
I just picked up a new set of Eggbeater SL's to find Crank Brothers once again changed the supplied cleat. I was expecting to find the promised premium cleat and found the new v3 cleat. It may be lighter, but it was not want fot the price I paid. Prices on these pedals don't seen to be getting cheaper, only the parts in the box do. I hope someone from Crank Brothers reads these boards.

My issue would be the lack of lateral and reduced rotational adjustment. I move my cleats as far inboard on the shoe as possible. These could cause my ankles to hit the crank arms.

The rotational adjust would likely be OK but much harder to do. If the cleats are not aligned properly they will, at least, be noisy (a slight click or squeak while pedaling) and wear quickly. At worst, mess with your knees.
V3 cleats

I too don't like the lack of adjustment either. The also don't grab the bottom of the shoe on the outsides of the slots. This to me is a problem. 8g lighter cleat is not what I want to have included when the advertise the premium cleat with these pedals. I called and emailed Crank Brothers yesterday. I was told on the phone that all techs are in a meeting, would you like the voice mail? She also asked if my LBS would swap them for me. I don't see how this is my LBS problem to deal with.
I talked to Crank Brothers today. The new V3 cleat will become standard. The premium cleat will only be available for the aftermarket. Would be nice if they let everyone in on their little seceret.
i still have my orignal 02 cleat from my original eggs...its starting to give more lately, but i dont want to change it....haha..

sad,, they used to have good CS...company is not as nice as they used to be i fear

This is the reason why i loved the SPD system .... less lateral play easy in and out more then one brand of pedal (shimano, wellgo, ritchey, xpedo ... and maybe more)
so you can find a pedal of your choice ... cleats are easy to find and pretty cheap ...
This is actually no big deal for the majority who really don't need or care about minute rotational adjustments.
I was happier with the original cleats, just screw them on and go, no messing with trying to figure out the optimum location within the adjustment range.

Not adjusting the rotational position of the cleat is why so many users complain of the cleats wearing quickly.
i just want the original cleats back, the first gen with the added nubs on the sides, premium cleats suck, but I wouldn't mind trying theese

ndebt, I will trade you brand new in the box premiums for your V3's
