During saturday's big group ride, one of the guys in my group had to abort the ride because his seat tube cracked.

He noticed it after a slow but rocky section. Looking at it, I wondered if a loose rock between the tube and that brace in the rear triangle could do it, when the timing is just right ... er, wrong..

I don't actually know him but recall he was not particularly big. We had just ridden a piece of trail that I'd call an extended horizontal rock garden, and we went slowly. Before that there was some smooth singletracks with roots here and there. From what I saw, I am pretty sure this was bad luck: something stuck between the rear triangle brace and seat tube, just when the suspension was compressing.
